Candy corn is a popular candy for the autumn season. This colorful candy is typically shaped in a cone-shape or triangle, but you can use your imagination and shape it however you choose. Here is what you will need to make your own candy corn for a tasty holiday treat.
Wooden spoon or large spoon to stir candy mixture
Wax paper (for cooling the candy)
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup white corn syrup
1/3 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
several drops of food coloring (orange or any other color)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup powdered milk
Now combine sugar, corn syrup (white) and butter in a pan over high heat and stir constantly until it boils. Next reduce heat to low and boil for 5 minutes while stirring occasionally. Then, remove from heat and add vanilla and drops of food coloring. In separate bowl combine powered sugar, salt and powdered milk. Now pour dry ingredients into pan with liquid mixture. Stir until it is cool enough to handle, then work with your hands until it is stiff. Mold the the triangles or desired shapes of the candy and allow it to cool and harden on wax paper. Another variation is to divide the dough and color it different colors and layer your candies with multiple colors. These candies will just melt in your mouth and are kid-friendly too.
Once the candy has cooled completely, store it in plastic bags or an airtight container until you are ready to serve.
